Looking for an Internship or Externship for hospitality that meets your requirements? If the answer is YES, then look no further than SusieCakes as we have an extensive program to help you build on your schools program as well allow you to meet and interact with our Executive Team. This program is slated to run 1 full semester and is intended to give you a bigger picture of how our business runs.

PLESASE NOTE: Pay will be market wages and will also have tips included. No housing is offered in our internship program. Anyone who applies to this position should currently be enrolled in a baking & pastry program or a culinary focused certification program.

Our bakeries are filled with the delicious tastes and sweet smells of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, and bars- all baked from scratch, on-site daily, using the freshest and finest ingredients. Our signature Celebration Cake is a birthday staple on tens of thousands of tables. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: As the Guest Service Intern, you will learn how the internal operations of SusieCakes works as well as learn key leadership skills that can be used as you pursue your hospitality management career. Our mission is to provide you with the knowledge around running the complete operation as efficiently as possible, while learning key leadership skills to coach and develop people internally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations:

  • Build a strong business acumen by exploring our operational objectives, policies, procedures and priorities of a successful business.
  • Develop brand awareness by learning how we build strong connections with our guest and team members through our company values.
  • Greet, welcome, and connect with our guests by maintaining service quality standards, handling guest orders and transactions.
  • Learn the culinary journey and how to prepare product level PARs, follow recipes, and testing for quality checks.

People:

  • Connect with the General Manager to learn how we develop, motivate and coach our team members to instill a positive working environment.

Financial:

  • Work with the General Manager to learn more about labor, cost of goods, and other operating expenses.
  • Shadow payroll processing with the general manager.

Facility/Safety:

  • Perform daily / weekly cleaning tasks and daily walkthroughs with the team
  • Learn how to manage bakery maintenance

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • 1 year of experience in hospitality courses
  • Or 1 year of restaurant/bakery/retail experience

Language Skills

  • Must be able to read and understand English for safety purposes
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with guests, managers, and team members

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work long periods of time standing
  • Must be able to taste product for quality assurance i.e buttercream(s), cake(s) and cupcake(s)batter, cookie dough and other recipes as assigned
